Doing nothing is not enough to stop this from happening again and again as it has for generations. Systemic racism is the underpinning of your entire life. Look for it and call it out every day, especially if you have the freedom not to notice — that freedom isn’t free, someone else is always paying for it. We were the exact same age. . . It’s difficult to put into words all of the emotions I’ve felt the past two days. Anger, sadness, grief, guilt, rage, and the list goes on. My heart is on fire. This morning I woke up and played “Changes” by Tupac and cried my eyes out. I can no longer just sit back and stay quiet. I’ve been quiet for too long. Yes, this is personal to me. My brothers and sisters are in pain. My brothers and sisters are tired of the systematic inequalities and I refuse to take a neutral stance. I vow to use this discomfort brewing inside of me as a catalyst for change and action. I vow to use my voice, leverage my influence, and stand for justice. And most importantly, I vow to BE THE CHANGE. To spread love, break barriers, and use this platform to share messages with a higher purpose.
