One To Watch: Yoonkyung Jang

With unconventional street locations, a multitude of colors, and always a stunning flash effect, Yoonkyung Jang’s photos undoubtedly bridge the gap between photography and fashion. Jang is based in Seoul and focuses her work on fashion editorials. She has been featured in many prominent fashion-centered magazines, namely Vogue, Sukeban, Rookie, and Oyster. Without being said, Jang is the perfect fit for Dior’s New Talent Photography Prize for Young Talents- in which she recently won gold.

The theme of the Dior contest was “Woman-Women Faces”, encouraging artists to explore femininity. Juried by fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, winning the award is no mean feat. Jang admires Lindbergh’s work and tells that he was the main reason she entered the competition: “Peter is my one of my favourite and most respected artists, so when I heard that he was on the jury, I really wanted to be recognized by him. Until this competition, I hadn’t had much of a chance to be judged by such a great jury” (Dazed Magazine).

The award includes a grant of €0,000, a feature in a Dior-curated group exhibition, and the exclusive opportunity to design a special commissioned piece for the House of Dior.
