Sakara Life is Hiring Design Director (NYC)

Sakara Life is a mission driven, fast-growing premium wellness brand helping people nourish themselves by providing ready-to-eat nutrition programs, functional products and unique content to clients nationwide. You will be responsible for “turning thoughts into things” and helping manifest the future of Sakara. We got started in 2013 and now have a team of ~240 across New York and Los Angeles.

Currently seeking a Design Director to serve as senior designer and lead our graphic design team in creating engaging, on-brand, results-driven graphic solutions that communicate, educate, inspire, and delight the current Sakara audience. You will own Sakara's design identity and how it extends across every channel and touchpoint.  You will work closely with the Creative Director, and other members of the creative team to design assets yourself, set the design strategy for other, and guide the design work of the design team, from the in-box experience to digital landing pages pieces and everything in-between.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 10+ years working as a Graphic Designer with deep experience in digital

  • Previous experience managing a team of 2+ designers in varied capacities is a must

  • Previous experience at a start up managing several types of projects at once a plus

  • Strong fundamental design and typography skills; respect for the graphic design process and opportunities.

  • Has a holistic approach to how pieces work together and connect

  • Self-starter, self-sufficient and action-oriented - sees opportunities before being asked and is proactive in executing quickly across several platforms while managing their own time.

  • Manage against tight deadlines with speed and efficiency

  • Leads by example and has excellent interpersonal and communication skills to nurture, encourage, challenge

  • Can focus and simplify ideas, and is confident to make suggestions to colleagues for better results

  • Contribute energy to create a positive work environment and keep the team excited for the next day

  • Knows the ins-and-outs of In-design, Sketch, Photoshop, After Effects, and the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite with an eye on new, better ways to work

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee design of all assets across the business, and across channels including site (landing pages, PDPs, PLPs, etc), email, social media (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram), content guides, and product packaging

  • Flex between designing projects directly and leading the process and leaning in on strategy for other designers

  • Lead and mentor a team of 3-5 Graphic Designers; give constructive feedback on designs and further develop the team's skills

  • Further codify brand book guidelines and brand standards for the business, and maintain those standards throughout all work produced by the team

  • Collaborate closely with the photo and video team on shoots; align on deliverables and art direct shoots as needed

  • Partner with Creative Director and Creative Operations Manager to review timelines and evaluate creative briefs to conceptualize design projects - communicate concerns and updates

  • Collaborate with other business leads in Marketing, BD, and Co-Founders to ensure design meets business objectives
