Rachel Comey is looking for a Pattern Maker to join our team. This role is responsible for developing, refining, and maintaining patterns across for our vast Womenswear collections, ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship, fit, and technical precision. Working closely with the Design, Technical Development, and Production teams, this role plays a critical part in transforming creative vision into production-ready garments. 

Salary Range: 85K - 120K depending on qualifications

Rachel Comey is an independently owned, New York City-based fashion house founded in 2001. We operate four flagship stores in New York, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and San Francisco and partner with approximately 100 select wholesalers internationally. 

Our headquarters in downtown NYC maintains an atelier with a team of talented sewers, tailors, patternmakers, and designers. We manufacture primarily in the garment centers of NYC and LA, but also proudly in Peru, India, China, Italy, and Portugal.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in development and/or production of men’s and women’s digital patterns with exceptional knowledge of the Gerber digital pattern-making system.

  • Strong knowledge of garment washing and dyeing processes, with a focus on understanding and managing fabric shrinkage

  • Strong technical understanding of fit and sizing across both Men’s and Women’s categories.

  • Proven experience developing luxury ready-to-wear patterns with precision and craftsmanship.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to translate design intent into production-ready garments.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Effective communicator, fluent in written and spoken English.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pattern Development: Create first patterns in collaboration with the Design team, translating sketches and concepts into accurate prototypes.

  • Showroom-Ready Patterns: Refine and finalize development patterns to ensure they are showroom-ready, incorporating correct construction details and information required for BOMs, recorded accurately on cutter’s musts.

  • Digital Pattern Management: Implement, digitize, and maintain patterns in the Gerber system, ensuring all digital files are accurate, up-to-date, and production ready.

  • Factory Compatibility: Ensure patterns are “production friendly,” properly converted and compatible for each manufacturing partner’s requirements.

  • Technical Packages: Provide key pattern measurements and accurate data for technical packs.

  • Collaboration & Consistency: Partner closely with the Senior Creative Pattern Maker to ensure clarity, consistency, and precision across all patterns.

  • Production Preparation: Prepare all development patterns for pre-production (PP) and production marking and grading.

  • Fit Adjustments: Execute production pattern corrections as determined in fittings, under the guidance of the Head Pattern Maker and Design team.

  • Prioritization: Manage and maintain pattern priorities as directed by the Technical Development and Production teams.

  • Pattern Library: Maintain and update the Pattern Block Library within Gerber to support design and development efficiency.

  • Communication: Maintain clear communication across Design, Technical, and Production teams, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
