Ace Hotel/Atelier Ace is Hiring a Senior Graphic Designer (NYC)

Atelier Ace is the in-house creative studio that develops and operates Ace Hotel, Maison de la Luz, and their partners and affiliates. The full-service studio is composed of multi-disciplinary thinkers, designers, architects, enthusiasts, optimists and friends — with some number of folks to keep things upright. With a creative and operations team that understands the essence of our brands and products, Atelier Ace aims to create inspiring, cohesive and meaningful experiences for people.

Art makes you feel something; design makes you do something. The Senior Graphic designer oversees and creates visual text and imagery concepts to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. The position reports directly to the Creative Director of Art and Design and will ensure that brand vision is present in all layouts, junior designers are clear on briefs and working cohesively, and projects are aligned with marketing strategy and goals.

  7. Knowledge and understanding of Atelier & Ace Culture & initiatives

  8. Technologically sound with Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, and other graphic design software.

  9. Experience with motion graphics, video and/or web and digital design, UX

  10. Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print, and the web

  11. Compelling portfolio of work over a wide range of creative projects

  12. Strong analytical skills

  13. Excellent eye for aesthetics & detail

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts, design, communications or related field, or the equivalent experience to provide the knowledge and skills required. Minimum five years proven experience in graphic design. Expertise gained working in a service and quality centric environment is preferred and considered an asset.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. Sit, walk, and stand continuously.

  2. Lift / carry 10lbs/4.5kg (frequently) and 25lbs/12kg (occasionally)

  5. May be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, height, and moving machinery.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualified candidates must be able to satisfactorily complete the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Assist in the critical review of the graphic work of junior designers

  2. Delegate design briefs and determine requirements

  3. Conceptualize visuals based on requirements

  4. Create images and layouts

  5. Develop illustrations, logos and other designs

  6. Use the appropriate brand identity guidelines for each graphic

  7. Work with copywriters and art director to produce final design

  8. Schedule projects and work within budget constraints

  9. Prepare rough drafts and present ideas

  10. Communicate with stakeholders about layout and design

  11. Amend designs after feedback

  12. Ensure graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand

  13. Test graphics across various media

SUPPORTING FUNCTIONS

In addition to the core focus & responsibilities, the candidate is expected to complete the following duties:

  1. Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing tasks as needed.

  2. Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, web designer, marketing, printers, and colleagues as necessary.

  3. Attend and participate in weekly design meetings and brainstorms, and track all project hours.
